In reference to the rescue of S. Lenard, late A.B.
on this ship, by P. Delaney. I was in my room and just during
into bed when I heard a lot of shouting and jumped out and saw
the two men in the water and the sampan standing by I went to the Port gangway and waited till they came up, by this time Delaney had got into the sampan and was still holding Lenard who was help-
-less on reaching the gangway it took Delaney and myself to get
Lenard out of the water and up the gangway as he was incapable of
going up the ladder by himself.
After getting Lenard down below to the For'cale I
had the Doctor called to attend him and Delaney left in the
sampan to rejoin his own shop.
Yours etc.,
(Sd.) A. V. R. Lovegrove, Lieut. R.N.R.,
Extra 2nd. officer, R.M.S. *Express of
